Road Trip to Falmouth, Cape Cod

Shop & Dine Main Street & Super Yacht Video

Well-known for the Falmouth Road Race & Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, this post gives you a peek into some Main Street shops & eateries.

Falmouth is my favorite place to visit on Cape Cod. And it’s possible to do as a day trip from The Andovers. Especially in the fall when traffic is lighter. (Attention Moms: Andover resident Gillian Baudreau is hosting a Mama’s Timeout Event in Falmouth this month.)

In just two hours you can be parked on Main Street, checking out the many shops (I only cover a few in this post). Once you’ve worked up an appetite, stop into one of the restaurants mentioned in this post.

Be sure to read to the end to check out the super yacht Hilarium entering Falmouth Harbor!

Authentic Italian — Osteria La Civetta

Authentic Italian food from Bologna is always on the menu at Osteria La Civetta. Chef Fabio Pozzati embraces the Italian culinary philosophy that less is usually more. Expect simple, unpretentious dishes that allow each component to shine. Pasta is made by hand daily with imported flour and organic free-range eggs. The Italian-based menu incorporates fresh and locally source produce, meat, and seafood.

Modern Greek Cuisine — Estia

Right next to Osteria La Civetta is relative newcomer Estia. Snag a seat on the front deck. Start with wine and an amazing spread, like tzatzki and avocado feta, served with warm pita. Then people watch as you peruse the extensive menu. Choose from gyros, pita wraps, kabobs, and other Greek specialties. As well as their crowd-pleasing coal-fired pizzas, and burgers, seafood, steaks and chops.

Elegant Eatery — The Glass Onion

The Glass Onion has a Old Cape Cod vibe. It’s little off the beaten path in the historic Queens Buyway building behind the Village Green. Expect elegant dining — with offerings like Butternut Squash Bisque, Lobster Strudel, Long Island Duck Breast, and Seafood Risotto — in a cozy setting. The Must-Try is the Mint Chocolate Ice Cream. Indescribably the freshest and has to be experienced to be appreciated.

European Fashion — Maxwell & Co.

Stop into Maxwell & Co. for the exquisite fashion experience of browsing their curated in-season looks for men and women. Expect the unexpected — European brands like Kiton, Dries Van Noten and Marni. The unique fashion boutique offers impeccable service and is truly a Must-See when browsing Main Street!

Main Street Shops | Old & New

Main Street Falmouth is lined with great shops, boutiques and dining spots. Too many to cover in this post. Here are two of my longtime favorites and two newcomers to check out. Longtime Favorites — Bean & Cod Specialty Foods & Gift Collections serves up sandwiches to go, an amazing selection of cheeses & more. Twigs Personal & Home Accessories carries the best candles, stylish handbags, great jewelry, as well as pottery and artwork. Falmouth Newcomers — Eugene Henry’s Gastronomical Delights is a gift shop and old-fashioned apothecary. Stop in for some retro treats like candy cigarettes. Sea Bags Maine offers nautically inspired totes and accessories upcycled from recycled sails.

Super Yacht Hilarium Enters Falmouth Harbor

What a treat to see the Super Yacht Hilarium enter Falmouth Harbor. To get an idea of its magnificent size, watch the video to the end when it stops to let the Island Queen (Martha’s Vineyard Ferry) go by.
